How Invisalign Works
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, removable, clear aligner trays to progressively move teeth into their correct position. Each set of trays is worn for 1–2 weeks before progressing to the next.
Key advantages over traditional braces:
- Virtually invisible — most people won't notice you're wearing them
- Removable — eat, drink, and clean your teeth normally
- Comfortable — no brackets or wires to cause irritation
- Predictable — ClinCheck software shows your projected result before you commit
- No dietary restrictions
The Invisalign journey at Core Dental Bayside:
- Complimentary consultation with Dr Andres Aguirre to assess suitability
- Digital iTero scan — precise, comfortable, no messy impressions
- ClinCheck simulation — see your projected result before any aligner is made
- Custom aligners fabricated and delivered
- Progress appointments every 6–8 weeks
- Retainers provided at completion to hold results
Wear time: 22 hours/day — remove only for eating, drinking (except water), and teeth cleaning. Average treatment duration: 12–18 months (varies by complexity).
Invisalign for Teens
Invisalign Teen is available at Core Dental Bayside with features specifically designed for younger patients:
- Wear compliance indicators — blue dots fade to clear, confirming proper wear time
- Replacement aligners — spare sets included for the occasional lost or damaged tray
- Suitable for teens with most common orthodontic issues

Invisalign Aftercare: Caring for Your Aligners
Starting your Invisalign journey is an exciting step. Here is everything you need to know to get the best results from your clear aligner treatment.
Wearing Your Aligners
Your aligners must be worn for a minimum of 22 hours per day. They should only be removed for eating, drinking anything other than plain cold water, and cleaning your teeth. If aligners are worn for less than 22 hours per day, treatment may be extended to compensate.
Inserting Your Aligners
Each aligner is labelled with a number and "U" (upper) or "L" (lower) so you always know which is which. To insert, gently push the aligner over your front teeth first, then apply equal pressure with your fingertips at the back teeth until the aligner clicks into position. Do not bite your aligners into place, as this can damage them.
Aligner Chewies
We recommend using Aligner Chewies for 10 to 15 minutes each day, especially in the first few days of a new aligner. These small soft plastic rolls help seat the aligner fully against your teeth, ensuring optimal fit and tooth movement. Move the Chewie around your mouth as you bite down on it.
Removing Your Aligners
Using your fingertips, start at the back teeth on one side and gently tug the aligner free, working your way around to the other side. Take extra care if you have attachments (the small tooth-coloured bumps placed on certain teeth to assist with movement).
Can I Eat and Drink with Aligners In?
Always remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything except cold water. Food and coloured drinks can stain the aligners and increase the risk of decay. Before re-inserting aligners after eating, brush and floss your teeth ideally, or at minimum rinse your mouth thoroughly.
Cleaning Your Aligners
Clean your aligners before each insertion using cold water and a soft toothbrush without toothpaste. Soaking in cool water with a teaspoon of white vinegar, or using Aligner Brite cleaning tablets, removes stains and bacteria effectively. Never use hot water, denture cleaners, or mouthwash as these can damage the plastic.
Storing Your Aligners
When not in your mouth, always store aligners in their provided case. Never place them in a tissue or pocket, where they can be accidentally thrown out or damaged.
Managing Discomfort
It is normal to experience mild pressure or discomfort for the first few days after switching to a new aligner. This is a sign the aligners are working and typically settles within two to three days. Over-the-counter pain relief can help if needed.
Speech
Some people notice a very slight temporary lisp when they first begin wearing aligners. This typically resolves within a few days as the tongue adjusts. Regular speaking will help speed up the adjustment.
Mouthguards During Invisalign Treatment
You still need to wear a protective mouthguard when playing contact sport during Invisalign treatment. Your aligners are not designed for impact protection. At Core Dental, we fabricate custom-fit mouthguards at a discounted rate for active Invisalign patients.
How Often Do Aligners Change?
Your orthodontic provider at Core Dental will outline your specific aligner change schedule. Depending on your treatment plan, aligners may change every five days, weekly, or every two weeks.
