3D Digital Scan + Resin Reveal ()

The iTero intraoral scanner captures a precise, comfortable 3D digital impression of your teeth without the mess or discomfort of traditional impression materials. This digital scan forms the basis of all treatment planning.

The resin reveal (also known as a diagnostic wax-up or mock-up) is an important step that allows you to see a physical preview of your proposed smile design before any tooth preparation is performed. A trial smile is placed on your teeth using temporary material, giving you the opportunity to assess the shape, size and appearance of your planned veneers and provide feedback before any irreversible steps are taken.

This is not a step that all practices offer, but at Core Dental it is included in every package, because we believe you should know exactly what you are getting before treatment begins.

Comprehensive Examination + Bitewing X-rays ()

A comprehensive dental examination before veneer treatment assesses the health of all teeth and gums, identifies any underlying issues that need to be addressed before cosmetic work begins, and forms the clinical foundation of your treatment plan.

Bitewing X-rays show the interproximal (between-tooth) surfaces and supporting bone, allowing detection of decay or bone changes not visible clinically.

Panoramic OPG X-ray ()

A full-mouth panoramic X-ray provides an overview of all teeth, roots, jaw structures and surrounding bone. It is useful for assessing the overall dental status before commencing treatment.

Comprehensive Scale, Clean and Polish ()

Core Dental practices are equipped with iTero intraoral scanners, enabling digital impressions that are more accurate, more comfortable and faster than traditional impression materials. Digital files are transmitted directly to our laboratory, eliminating transport delays and potential distortion from traditional impressions.

3D Printers

Our use of 3D printing technology allows for the fabrication of diagnostic models, surgical guides and provisional restorations with precision and speed. 3D-printed study models are used in the veneer design process to refine smile designs before they are communicated to the ceramist.

In-House Laboratory

Core Dental works with a dedicated ceramic laboratory to produce each veneer. The ceramists work closely with our clinical team to ensure the shade, shape and surface texture of each veneer meets the exacting standards our patients expect.

The Consultation Process

Getting started is straightforward:

Step 1: Initial Consultation Your cosmetic dentist at Core Dental will take a full dental and medical history, assess your current dental health, and discuss your smile goals in detail. We want to understand what you like about your current smile, what you would like to change, and what kind of result you are hoping to achieve.

Step 2: Digital Scan and Smile Design An iTero digital scan is taken and used to create your initial smile design. Photographs are also taken for reference. Your dentist will work with you to determine the appropriate veneer parameters.

Step 3: Resin Reveal (Trial Smile) Before any tooth preparation, a trial smile is placed on your teeth using temporary resin material, allowing you to see and approve your proposed result.

Step 4: Veneer Preparation A small amount of enamel is removed from each tooth to create space for the veneer. This preparation is precise and minimal, typically 0.3-0.7mm depending on the desired outcome. Temporary veneers are placed while your permanent veneers are fabricated.

Step 5: Veneer Delivery At your final appointment, the custom porcelain veneers are bonded permanently to your teeth. Adjustments are made to ensure perfect fit, comfort and aesthetics.

Step 6: Night Splint and Aftercare Your custom night splint is fitted, and full aftercare instructions are provided.

Veneer Aftercare: Protecting Your Investment

Congratulations on your new veneers. To prolong their lifespan and keep your smile looking its best, please follow these aftercare guidelines:

1. Sensitivity after placement is normal. You may experience some tooth sensitivity following your veneer insertion appointment. Apply sensitive toothpaste topically to the affected teeth for relief. This sensitivity may last a few weeks and resolves on its own.

2. Brush twice daily with an electric toothbrush. Choose a toothbrush with a pressure sensor to prevent excessive force, which can cause gum recession over time. Gentle, consistent cleaning is the key to maintaining healthy gums around your veneers.

3. Floss gently every day. Daily flossing around the margins of the veneers keeps the gum tissue healthy and prevents plaque from accumulating where the veneer meets the gum.

4. Avoid very hard foods. Biting directly into hard items such as nuts, hard lollies, baguettes, or ice can cause fractures or chipping to veneers over time. Cut hard foods into smaller pieces and use your back teeth for chewing.

5. Wear a night splint (occlusal guard) every night. If you grind or clench your teeth while sleeping, this habit can cause veneer fractures or premature wear. A custom-fitted night guard protects both your veneers and your natural teeth. Ask your Core Dental clinician to organise one if you do not already have one.

6. Top up your whitening periodically. Your veneers are made of ceramic and will not whiten with bleaching gel. However, the natural teeth around them can stain and yellow over time. Periodic at-home or in-chair whitening ensures your natural teeth continue to match the colour of your veneers.

7. Wear a sports mouthguard during contact sport. Any impact to the mouth during sport risks damaging your veneers. A well-fitted custom mouthguard provides essential protection.

8. Keep up with six-monthly check-ups and cleans. Regular appointments at Core Dental allow your dentist and hygienist to check the condition of your veneers, monitor the gum margin, and professionally clean areas that are difficult to maintain at home.
